You can go ahead and submit your practicals as you’ve only gone a couple of days over.

7th October 2024 at 4:24 pm #58736Ollie LawrenceParticipantfor the practical assessment of doing a backwash am I allowed to follow the NOP guidelines at our site during the video or remember it off by heart?
8th October 2024 at 1:36 pm #58759Stockwell SafetyKeymasterA checklist is sometimes used by PPO’s when conducting backwashes. There are two types:
Do-Confirm.
The operator performs the task (example: safely changing the system’s configuration from standard filtration to backwash). They do this from memory and experience without referring to the checklist. Then, before restarting the pumps, they pause to refer to the checklist and confirm that everything has been done as per the correct procedure.Read-Do.
The operator performs the task as they read from the checklist. Both types of checklist have their uses, but for the demonstration of skills, we will only accept the use of the first type (Do-Confirm).
Also – the learner must not receive any prompts during the skills demonstration (fine for training – not for assessment).
11th March 2025 at 5:16 pm #63213Yvonne FarmerParticipantHi,
I am almost ready to take my PPO exam and and practicals. Please will you advise me on the following?
1.Am I allowed to have the Water Balance Chart showing the factors in front of me so that I can refer to it when I’m carrying out my water balance test video please? Or does the chart/factors need to be committed to memory?
2.For the water balance test, what factor is used for a TDS reading of less than 1000 please? Shall I use the factor for 1000? (TDS is around 450)
3. Shall I video me backwashing both of the filters in our circulation system one after the other, or show the backwashing procedure of one filter only?
4. For the PPO exam, what are the allowed items on my desk please? Are a calculator; pen and blank piece of paper allowed to jot down calculations?
5. Is there a time limit for taking my exam? Or for submitting my videos for my practical assessments?
6. I will be using my iPhone to video. My camera settings for video are: zoom 0.5x, 1x or 2x, 4K or HD and a choice of 30 or 60 fps. Is there a particular iPhone setting that would be best to use please?
Many thanks for your help.
12th March 2025 at 9:35 am #63233Stockwell SafetyKeymasterHi, please see below:
1.Am I allowed to have the Water Balance Chart showing the factors in front of me so that I can refer to it when I’m carrying out my water balance test video please? Or does the chart/factors need to be committed to memory? – Yes, you are allowed to use the chart and/or online calculator.
2.For the water balance test, what factor is used for a TDS reading of less than 1000 please? Shall I use the factor for 1000? – Yes, that will be fine.
3. Shall I video me backwashing both of the filters in our circulation system one after the other, or show the backwashing procedure of one filter only? Just one filter will be enough.
4. For the PPO exam, what are the allowed items on my desk please? Are a calculator; pen and blank piece of paper allowed to jot down calculations? It’s a multiple choice exam. You can use a pen and a paper if you like.
5. Is there a time limit for taking my exam? Or for submitting my videos for my practical assessments? The exam and practicals need to be completed within 4 weeks of each other.
6. I will be using my iPhone to video. My camera settings for video are: zoom 0.5x, 1x or 2x, 4K or HD and a choice of 30 or 60 fps. Is there a particular iPhone setting that would be best to use please? We recommend you go with a low video quality setting so the video is not too big and it will be quicker to upload to our dropbox. There’s no file size limit.
